Crafted in the rugged northland of New Zealand by Māori craftsmen, this Tōtara Hook will bring a charming touch to your home decor. Great as a gift to build relationships between families and peoples.

Uira Whero stands for red lightning which is displayed in the fractal burnt patterning of this beautifully figured Matau. Finished with a satin lacquer to protect the finish for years to come and create a great sheen to bring out those beautiful organic grains.

This piece of Tōtara was salvaged from the forest and brought back to purpose with many hours of careful craftsmanship. Each piece of Tōtara has a story to tell of its journey from tree, to felling in the past forestry days, and then to being salvaged, and finally redeemed to be a blessing in someone’s home for many generations. It could be your home soon…

Take care, let natures story be told with Kaitiakitanga. (The art of conservation and sustainability)

Te Hei Matau, fish hook, is said to grant strength, good luck and safe travel to its wearer, and signifies connection to the ocean (or water).

The hook also brings prosperity, good luck, and strength to all who wear the symbol.
