We are a group of New Zealand born creatives who enjoy adventures, making cool things, pushing the boundaries of the norm. We come from multiple backgrounds to bring a refreshing mix of old and new together. We are passionate about telling stories... in this case, Natures Story.
Meet The Team
Our Story
One day I went on a family holiday up to the far north of New Zealand, as you do when you live in this great land. It's really nice up there. One would even feel like it was a different country altogether due to the heat increase. Our initial intentions were sight seeing and visiting the historical places of note like Cape Rēinga, Waitangi, and the like. This we did for sure, and loved it totally.
However, after few days it begin to dawn on us that this trip was soon becoming a family Kauri expedition. It seemed that every where we went, including a close friend of ours near Whangārei were heavily into the procurement and the production of Kauri artwork and tables.
I was already a keen manufacturer of furniture and other NZ made products like you see on this website. It did not take much to stir up a desire in me to join the justified band wagon in telling the story of this marvelous timber. Its history is rich, the story each piece rescued has to tell is rich, the results of working with this wood is always amazing.
From this time, I began my journey in sourcing this very rare timber from close friends in the region. We have spent countless days, hours, months, and years building up the foundation to be able to produce (and procure from those supporting our shop) great works for you to also be a part of, in both; designing, and purchasing your family treasure for your home or simply for an impressive gift idea.
We are in this with passion, with mana, and with love because we see a truth revealed in the story of how we take a rotting felled tree lying hopeless in the bush. We take this piece, we clean it up, we breath life into it through time and thought, then we work it until the potential beauty is once again revealed. This type of redemption is a priceless opportunity for us to express the inner craftmanship that lies within us.
Kaitiakitanga | Sustainability
The Māori kaupapa of environmental management is long established and is holistic in it's broad sense. Katiaki is a way of practice which ensures peace within the environment which, in turn, prevents intrusions that bring lasting imbalances. It also guards against unsustainable practices that affect the environment. Kaitiakitanga is a broad practice which incorporates guardianship, care, and wise management of the whenua.
We practice the notion of Kaitiakitanga with our sourcing, milling, and harvesting of the forest to supply our Kauri, Totara, and other precious materials which come from the land here in Aotearoa.
